TWO premier teams are through to the semi-finals of the Warburton Cup.

Little Lever A gave their D team 10 points start but still ran out comfortable 6-3 winners, two wins each for Ron Durose, Howard Leigh and Phil Riley.

Cricketers entertained Hilton G who received 14 points start but again this was not enough, Cricketers recording an 8-1 win which included three wins by Jim Chadwick and Mike Dore and two by Derek Watmough.

Division One leaders Nomads A made good use of their five points start to beat premier side Hilton A 6-3. After being 2-1 down they won the next three sets to lead 4-2 and although Hilton won the next set Nomads won the final two to clinch the match. Three wins here by Craig Johnson, two by Dennis Collier and one by Clive Taylor. One result remains outstanding between Little Lever C and Wingates B which means Division Two will be represented in the semi-finals.

In the Brian Gittins Cup last season's winners and current Premier Division leaders Ramsbottom A, easily beat a weakened Farnworth A team 5-1. Little Lever A reached their second semi-final with a resounding 5-1 win at Heaton B. The Heaton side received five points start but only Paul Mort could get on the score sheet.

Premier team Wharton A gave First Division side Wingates A five points start and ran out 7-2 winners which included trebles by Bob Jackson and Barry Elliot. Cricketers also reached their second semi-final with a 6-3 win on their visit to Wharton B which means the semi-finals will be contested by four Premier Division teams.

The holders of the George Yates Shield Heaton D utilized their five points start to beat fellow Second Division team BEN A 6-3. The win included a treble by Chris Higson, two wins by Steve Barber and one by Steve Woods. Division Three leaders Halls proved too strong for Farnworth also from Division Three, despite giving a six point start they ran out 5-1 winners. Rob and Geoff Hall each winning two sets and Chris Hall one.

The Little Lever derby match was a much closer affair with the E team from Division Three who received seven points start scraping home 5-4 against the Second Division C team. The win featured two wins by Martin Archer which included the final set of the night, and two by Mark Martin plus one by Bob Waller, Ian Lansdale trebled for the losers. One match remains outstanding between Wingates B and Black Dog both from Division Two.

In the Ron Hindle Memorial Trophy Division Five team Ellesmere A, on a six point start, were no match for Division Four top team Ramsbottom D, who recorded a comfortable 7-2 win, trebles here by Joe Walk and Paul Wood. Kirit Chauhan's treble for BEN B proved decisive in their 5-4 win at Jubilee B. The Jubilee team with a seven point start fought all the way and were leading 4-3 but lost the final two sets and the match.

Heaton F receiving five points start beat fellow Division Four team YMCA 5-2 which included two wins by Colin Roberts and Dave Bevitt plus one by Nick Woods. Division Four team Memorial Road giving five points start to Hilton I, the current Division Five leaders were not troubled in their 6-3 win, which included a treble by Richard Hannant, two wins by Neil Unsworth and one by Peter Ellis.

Bolton went down 7-3 to a strong Manchester team in a Lancashire and Cheshire inter-league match. Darren Howarth won two sets and combined with Dave Griffiths to win the doubles.
