TWO rare football souvenir programmes are to be auctioned this Spring.
The elite collectibles relating to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United are under the hammer of sporting auctioneers, Mullock Madeley.
Says John Mullock: "These are rare and fascinating artefacts relating to the heydays of the two clubs.
The programmes, both from South African tours were picked-up for a shilling each by the vendor, a British citizen who was serving in the Navy in South Africa at the time. He attended the matches when a ticket cost seven shillings and six pence each.
Today, sporting memorabilia specialist, John Mullock says the programmes, tickets and supporters badge will sell for a comparative small fortune, with each set likely to generate a four figure sum. "There is a very strong market out there for items of this quality and calibre.
"Many people don't realise what they have stashed away in the top draw. It's an irony that there are former players and their families who don't appreciate how football memorabilia has escalated in value especially during the past five years. We are happy to provide valuations on sporting memorabilia."
The Mullock Madeley auction is to take place on April 9 and April 10 at Shropshire's Wrekin College.
