A FURIOUS van driver has seen red over Bolton Council's refusal to back down over a parking ticket.

Beverley Martin, from Lowton, was delivering books to Paderborn House in Bolton town centre earlier this year when she got a ticket slapped on her van.

Mrs Martin left the van in the loading space behind the building on Old Hall Street North while she went backwards and forwards with the stock.

After getting the ticket ordering her to pay the £20 fine, she rang the parking shop and was told to get a letter from Paderborn House confirming she was parked to unload.

But she was horrified when she received another letter stating that, although she had produced proof of loading, because the traffic warden had not actually seen her do it, she would still have to pay up.

"It seems to have all got out of hand," said Mrs Martin.

"What was I supposed to do? Go looking for a traffic warden? I am determined not to pay it." Mrs Martin now plans to take the case to the independent parking adjudicator.

A spokesman for Bolton Council said: "The bays are not there for long-term parking and it has got to be continuous loading and unloading which is seen by our parking attendants.

"Business people are saying that we are not enforcing this rule enough because they need to use the bays.

"The lady concerned is quite entitled to go to the independent parking adjudicator."
