has new boss GREATER Manchester County Fire Service has appointed a new County Fire Officer and chief executive.
Married father-of-two Mr Barry Dixon (pictured), aged 50, from Prestwich, will take over from Mr George Almond, who retires in March.
Mr Dixon began his career with the City of Manchester Fire Brigade in 1974. He was appointed Assistant County Fire Officer in 1995 and Deputy County Fire Officer in January, 2000.
