IT was with great interest that I saw on the BEN Internet site the news that a book had been published about the wartime Wanderers.

The piece revived memories of going to Burnden Park when soccer was football and not this version we see today by most teams, who generally seem more interested in showing off their individual skills in order to justify exorbitant wages, rather than a direct approach to the opponents goal in order to score!

I lived in Bolton until 1963 and remember going along the canal from Darcy Lever to the matches at Burnden. I was even present at the Burnden disaster in the Fifties, and the Cup final against Blackpool -- the darkest day of my life!

I now live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, and eagerly get on the Internet each week to get the latest score from the Wanderers match.

I fondly remember Stan Hanson, Nat Lofthouse, Lol Hamlett, Westwood and Woodward, Willie Moir, and others. I even remember thinking the world might end -- when a world record transfer fee of £14,000 pounds was paid for a footballer, I think it was Bryn Jones

Keep up the good work I am sure that there are many people around the world who look eagerly at the latest news.

Best wishes to Sam Allardyce and the current team of Wanderers. I am sure they will do their followers proud.
