A ROYAL Mail security guard was smashed over the head with a metal bar during a lunch-time robbery at Bolton post office.
The victim was set upon by four men wearing balaclavas as he walked towards the Bury Road, Breightmet, branch.
Police are investigating the incident and it is not known if the robbers escaped with any cash. It is believed the security guard was taken to hospital.
