REGARDING the story Accidental death verdict -- Paul Atkinson (BEN November 17 by Jane Bullock).
Please could I make readers aware that the above report referred to Paul's heart valves and corneas have been "successfully donated". In actual fact they have been "successfully transplanted".
Paul was, and his sister Nichola Rogers is, the closest friend I have and Nich was very concerned that readers may not realise that these body parts have been put to good use. We both support organ donations and there is a shortage of donors and a long list of people living in the hope of a transplant. Paul's passing has been heartbreaking for his family and friends, but about 50 people could benefit from his donation. That is a good thing. If you would accept a transplant for you and/or yours if necessary, then wouldn't it be logical to offer your own body parts when you no longer need them?
