SAM Allardyce has pledged his support to the PFA's call for strike action.

The Bolton Wanderers' manager, speaking on his personal website, said: "I'm happy to pledge my support to the PFA despite the current threats of TV blackouts. I know the PFA does a lot of important work, and one day I might even need to call on their services myself.

"It's reassuring for those of us who are relatively well off to know that if things go wrong there is a safety net we can rely on. You can never be sure what the future holds for you.

"A lot of players down the divisions rely on the PFA for financial support both during and after their playing career. There are lots of clubs that need PFA support to pay players wages too and this is one of the reasons why I'm surprised when managers and chairmen say they're against the PFA getting more money.

"It's all too easy for the people at the top of the ladder to ignore those down the divisions.

"If we don't support the PFA then a lot of people who don't make it to the top, in terms of players and clubs, will simply drop out of the game with nothing and that's a sad scenario.

"I would like to think we do all we can to prevent that happening at the moment, and the PFA is central to that."
