TRADITION has played a big part in prompting Wanderers to set up a high noon clash with Leeds United on Boxing Day.

After discussions with police and consultation with Elland Road officials, the festive Roses battle will kick off at 12 rather than 3pm as originally scheduled.

"Early kicks offs have been something of a tradition on Boxing Day," Wanderers' secretary Simon Marland explained, "and, after sitting down with the police, we decided to go down that road again. Last time were were in the Premiership we kicked off early against Barnsley and that went down well with a full house.

"The short journey involved for visiting fans makes it ideal."
