GUDNI Bergsson has hinted that he could postpone his retirement for a third time next summer.

The Wanderers' skipper has shelved plans to quit the game in successive summers, each time insisting that his next season would be his last.

A qualified lawyer, he has a career waiting for him in his native Iceland, where his wife and two children are now based.

But at 36 and turning in vintage performances in the Premiership, he is coming under pressure from his team-mates and fans, and says he is again considering playing on. But he will not make a decision until the Spring.

"I have said before that I was going to retire at the end of the season and then I've changed my mind and come back," he said. "I don't want to do that again.

"I'm really enjoying my football and looking forward to the rest of the season. In due course, when we have secured our position in the Premiership, then I'll sit down and contemplate what to do."

Bergsson has always insisted that family considerations will always play a major part in the timing of his retirement but Sam Allardyce has been flexible and accommodating of his personal demands and the veteran defender has responded by playing the best football of his career.

"I have been really pleased with my form this season," Bergsson told Sky Sports, "I'm enjoying myself and the manager has been very helpful to me in the last couple of years."
