A WIDOW has been touched by the kindness of Sam Allardyce after her husband died recently of cancer.

The Bolton Wanderers manager spent time chatting to 66-year-old Derek Parker before the big match at Old Trafford in October.

And when Sam heard the Whites supporter had died, he organised a collection at the club and donated the money to his chosen charity.

Margaret Parker said her husband, who moved to Southport eight years ago, watched the 2-1 win at Old Trafford in a private box with his sons, United fans John and David.

An hour before the kick-off he was surprised when Sam came in to say hello.

Mrs Parker added: "I don't think many managers would have done that before such a big game.

"It was a terribly, terribly special day for him and so wonderful for the manager to come and speak to my husband."

She added: "At a time when football is so dominated by money it was lovely to see the absolute warmth and friendliness of the man."

After having a chat about the match and getting Sam's autograph, Mr Parker then enjoyed one of the Wanderers' most famous victories.

He even won £50 after having a bet on the result before the game.

Sam had invited Mr Parker to another Bolton game and when he heard the supporter had died he decided to organise a collection between players and staff.

The money raised will be donated to Mrs Parker's chosen charity, the Clatterbridge Cancer Research Trust.
