Chris Sudlow's United scene

A CERTAIN Scotsman will be watching this afternoon's World Cup clash at Old Trafford with more regard than he generally gives England.

For Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping there are no injuries to the United contingent ahead of the Champions League trip to face Olympiakos in Athens on Wednesday night.

After that crushing last gasp defeat against Deportivo La Coruna, the re-arranged trip to Greece is hardly the fixture Fergie would have wanted.

With United's poor European away form, and unpredictable defence, under scrutiny, a massive audience is expected for ITV's The Big Match Live.

Skipper Roy Keane has already issued another wake-up call to his team-mates after an indifferent start in the Champions League.

Keane felt United were not good enough to go all the way in the competition after last season's exit at the hands of Bayern Munich.

And the club's skipper maintains that there is still much work to be done.

So far United have scraped a last-minute winner at home to Lille, before losing to two late goals in Spain.

Keane said: "It is up to the existing players to pick up their performance level and work even harder than before to keep pace with the demands on us.

"Because results have not been brilliant so far, it is easy to single out the new boys for criticism. But that would be wrong. They have come in and been great."
