SYLVAIN Distin - "the one that got away" - could be in line for his first Premiership start for Newcastle at the Reebok next Saturday.

The defender from Paris St Germain, who upset Sam Allardyce when he broke off from transfer talks with Wanderers to speak to the Magpies, made his bow in English football as a late substitute in the heavy defeat at West Ham.

Distin, who impressed in a reserve outing this week and is expected to understudy for Niko Dabizas in Tuesday's Worthington Cup tie against Barnsley, is understood to be figuring prominently in Bobby Robson's plans.
