A WOMAN aged 93 was left battered and bruised after being attacked by an intruder who then ransacked her Harwood home.

Ann Hodson lay on the floor in agony for more than an hour until she was discovered and taken to hospital.

Mrs Hodson, who lives at Longsight Lodge, is recovering in hospital from her injuries, which included a badly bruised hip and knee and a cut mouth.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw someone enter or leave her home between 8.30pm and 9.15pm yesterday to contact them.

Mrs Hodson was in her home last night when she disturbed the teenager who had entered the house by forcing open a back window.

He approached her and threw her to the ground.

She lay on the floor until 10pm when she was discovered by her home-help.

The intruder managed to escape with a quantity of cash.

Insp John Dunstan, of Astley Bridge police station, appealed for witnesses.

He said: "This sort of crime shocks everyone.

" I am sure the person responsible wouldn't have liked something like this to happen to a member of their family."

Mrs Hodson, who described the intruder as a teenage male, wearing a dark top, was recovering at the Royal Bolton Hospital today.

Anyone with information should call Astley Bridge CID on 0161 872 5050.
