Marie's tribute poem to US terror victims A TEENAGER has written a poetic tribute to the thousands of people killed in the New York terrorist attack.

Marie Smith, from Horwich, wrote a poem called "For Those Who Died" after being touched by the horrific events in America.

The Rivington and Blackrod High School Year 10 pupil visited Asda at Middlebrook with a group of her friends who all signed a book of condolence placed there for customers to express their feelings about the events on September 11.

Marie, aged 14, amazed other customers and staff at the store by including her poem in the book.

Her 35-year-old mother, Linda Smith, said: "Marie watched quite a few eyewitness documentaries that week after the attack and she kept jotting things down.

"But when she showed me the finished poem I just thought: 'Wow'.

"She loves writing stories and if she wants to become a writer after leaving school, then I'd support her wholeheartedly."

Marie's form tutor, Craig O' Reilly, said: "The poem is absolutely superb.

"Marie does read a lot and is always writing poems off the top of her head, but not many people know about this poem and she should be very proud of it."

Elaine Cleworth from Asda said: "As a local company with an American parent company we have had in our foyer a condolence book for customers who wished to express their feelings with regards to the events on September 11. We have filled one book and are now filling a second. We were very touched by the poem written on the spur of the moment by a 14-year-old girl." FOR THOSE WHO DIED

By Marie Smith

The sun rose, a normal day

Sent to work on your way

Sky line the same nothing changed

All is regular nothing strange.

Out of the sky a silver shape

"Quick get the camera, roll the tape"

The immortal twins death from the sky

Innocent people, today they die.

Engulfed in flames, writhing with pain

"Honey I love you they've hijacked the plane"

The five-sided fury now becomes four

All the death and pain, blood and gore.

Murder, Massacre, a cloud of dust

Like ghost from a story, strong, robust

Now they're rubble a pile of grief

With thousands and thousands trapped underneath.

Brave heroes fall, they fought the fire

For cowardly actions, the consequences dire

Death, destruction, wraith and law

This isn't the last, because this means war. FOR THOSE WHO DIED
