A TEAM of 30 volunteers from Bolton Old Links will be helping to steward the first hole.
Organiser John White said: "We marshall at the Open when it is at Royal Lytham and Royal Birkdale and when the British Women's Open is in the area.
"Traditionally we control the first hole. We are very involved in the running of the event because we control the conditions of play by making sure the crowds are settled and the crossings are controlled.
"It is not a cakewalk. We have to be up and out early and on duty in time. We work on a shift and rotation basis and have to be on the first tee by 6.45am.
"It is interesting as it puts you very close to international sporting celebrities. Because of the nature of the game golf puts you inside the ropes and not outside them."
