THREE youths, one aged 13, were involved in a hour-long police chase through the North-west.

The 25-mile chase began just after 10.30 last night after police officers saw a Vauxhall Belmont being driven along Bolton Road, Westhoughton, shoot off at high speed.

The car sped through a series of red lights and was driven on the wrong side of the road at speeds of up to 90 mph.

The driver then took off through Atherton and Tyldesley and then on to the East Lancs Road towards Liverpool.

At the Greyhound roundabout, near Leigh, the suspects veered off towards Glazebury, before speeding through Risley, Culcheth and Birchwood near Warrington.

Greater Manchester Police's helicopter had earlier been scrambled and monitored the chase.

Motorway patrol officers from Cheshire Police were alerted and sped ahead of the suspected stolen car as it was driven at speeds of 90 miles an hour towards Liverpool.

The hour-long chase finally ended at 11.40pm when the car was stopped near Rainhill, Merseyside. The two Bolton police officers who had followed the suspects from Westhoughton arrested two people who were in the vehicle. No cars were damaged and no one was injured during the pursuit.
