BOLTON racing cyclists who use the lanes of the Rivington area as their training ground say they are relishing the prospect of seeing Commonwealth Games stars on the course.

They are breathing a sigh of relief that difficulties in plotting a road race course, suitable for the BBC's TV coverage, have been ironed out after fears that the event could be moved from Rivington to a different course.

Twisting

Bolton based Lancashire Road Club and the Horwich Cycling Club not only train on the twisting lanes and steep climbs of the area, but both clubs have also staged competitive events around the lanes.

Ian Marshall, secretary of Lancashire Road Club, says he believes the proposed course, which includes about two miles of narrow lanes through Rivington Country Park, will be a supreme challenge for the Commonwealth

Games riders.

"It will really test bike handling skills because of the twists and turns," said Ian.
