THE Bolton Evening News today passed on new information to police after a teenager was pictured looking on as another youth crawled into a car not belonging to either of them.

Yesterday a series of photographs were published, including the one above, showing the teenage boy -- wearing a distinctive stripey T-shirt and baseball cap -- as he watched a second youth crawl into the vehicle.

The J-reg Citroen, parked on Bolton Parish Church car park, did not belong to either youth and its woman owner later confirmed that as far as she knew there was no reason for either to be by her car.

When the woman returned she discovered the glove compartment had been rifled through and herbal tablets, left in the vehicle, were no longer there.

Last night the BEN issued an appeal for the youth, pictured, to contact us to explain why he and the other boy were seen by the vehicle, with the boot open.

So far the teenager has failed to contact the BEN newsroom to explain the circumstances surrounding the picture.

But now a mystery caller has tipped-off the newspaper with details of a Bolton youth who they believe may be the person caught on film.

The information has now been passed on to senior police officers who have also been handed copies of the BEN's photographs.

Supt Don Brown, of Bolton Central police station, said: "We are grateful for the information. We will evaluate the evidence and take whatever action is necessary."
