LEGENDARY rock star Joe Cocker is coming to the aid of the Shakers writes PHIL THORP.
Bury supporter Don Hale, editor of the Matlock Mercury newspaper, has released a previously unheard recording of Cocker's and the CD features seven tracks from a recording made at Sheffield's Esquire Club in 1963.
Don, who hit the headlines months ago with his campaign to release convicted murderer Stephen Downing, was formerly on the books of the Shakers and was editor of the now defunct Bury Messenger.
He has donated a limited number of these superb packages with all proceeds to go towards the Save Our Shakers appeal.
The unique CD contains the story and songs of the young Cocker when he performed under the name Vance Arnold and the Avengers.
The recording was made live on stage during 1963 using a reel to reel tape by his first manager and mentor Terry Thornton.
The recording has lay dormant and forgotten, despite Joe's immense success and the much sought-after package is priced at £7.
