BOLTON athletes grabbed two medals in the English Schools Championships in Exeter at the weekend.

Top performance came from Bolton Harrier Tom Lancashire who took the silver in the Intermediate Boys 1500m and his top two finish means he goes on to represent England in the Home Nations Schools International against Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland in Dublin this weekend.

The other medal winner was high jumper Brian Hall, also of Bolton Harriers, who won the bronze with a leap of 2.04m. It was below what he would have hoped for but was still the equal second best jump of the competition, his rival winning on countback.

Eight Bolton Harriers athletes competed in the two-day competition, in which they were representing Greater Manchester, along with two from Horwich RMI Harriers, Vicky Harold and Janine Mullineaux.

The Horwich pair were the first athletes from the club ever to compete in the Championships, and Vicky finished 13th in the discus and Janine ninth in the javelin.
