MOST fathers will go to the ends of the earth to please their daughters -- little Lara Young's dad Barry is no exception.

Barry Young, 55, of St Hilda's Close, Chorley, is so eager to help raise awareness of the rare genetic disease which affects his daughter that he organised a stand at the forthcoming Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show at Astley Park.

Lara, aged four, who attends Duke Street Nursery, Chorley, was diagnosed with Williams Syndrome when she was three months old -- the disease affects only one in 25,000 youngsters.

Barry, who works as group commercial manager at Ruttle Plant Hire, said he is desperate to raise awareness of the disease.

He said: "That's why I have arranged, with support from the Williams Syndrome Foundation, a stand at the Royal Lancashire Show, offering information and advice to people who want to know more about the disease.

"In addition to this there will be a bouncy castle and a raffle to raise funds."

The stand, costing £750 and paid for through sponsorship, will be used to raise money for the Williams Syndrome Foundation.

The disease causes learning difficulties and heart problems, as well as a range of other symptoms. Children who are affected also usually have a very distinct facial appearance. And it is not only Lara's parents who have rallied round to make more people aware of the disease. Staff and friends at Duke Street Nursery, pictured here with Lara, also did their bit by holding a cake sale to raise funds.

Headteacher Karen Coffey said parents baked cakes and children brought them into school to sell for 10p each, raising £100 which Barry will pass on to the charity.

Mrs Coffey said: "Lara is a very energetic girl, so full of life and a delight to have around. We were only too happy to help."

Barry said: "I am grateful to the nursery as we need every bit of help to raise awareness and funds to make life better for sufferers like Lara."

Raffle tickets are on sale in advance and the draw will be held on the last day of the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show.
