I READ the article about Councillor Rothwell claiming that the advertisements on Kearsley roundabout are an accident waiting to happen, and a threat to road safety.
Well, what a load of twaddle.
The signs take no longer to read than all the other signs at the roundabout such as the directional signs, or sharp deviation sign that the advert in question is situated against. The next thing she will say is that billboards at the side of the road are a hazard, or even road markings on the floor, which brings me to the real point of this letter.
If Cllr Rothwell is really concerned about road safety, then how about making sure the direction arrows painted on the road coming from the roundabout to Longcausway are repainted, so that drivers who do not know the area do not switch lanes at the last minute, or go straight ahead into Farnworth from the wrong lane. Now that's an accident waiting to happen. How many other roadmarkings and signs are in need of repainting, or replacing, in Farnworth, which, in my view, represent a greater risk to road safety than an advert.
Come on Cllr Rothwell, stop messing about with trivial little things like an advertisement, when there are real dangers in our town.
