YOUNG cricketers from Little Lever were given some professional advice yesterday as they prepared for the biggest match of their lives -- a battle of the classes against Prince Harry's Eton school pals.

It is the first time that a state school team has reached the final of the Lords Taverner's under 15s national cup competition.

And the youngsters are set to play one of Britain's most high profile schools in the final at Nottingham's Trent Bridge ground on Monday.

Yesterday, though, they were put through their paces by cricket experts at Lancashire's Old Trafford base.

John Stanworth, Lancashire County Cricket Club's player development manager said: "We all think it's a great achievement and everyone at Old Trafford is thrilled to bits for them.

"Because of what they have done we decided to bring them down to Old Trafford and have a light hearted training session with them and hopefully a little bit of fun."

He added: "We didn't want to give them any serious training because up to now they have come this far off their own bat.

"They have earned their big day and the glory that goes with it and we just wanted to add out own congratulations with a day out at Old Trafford."

Prince Harry will not be playing in the game, but the Eton side Little Lever will face are certain to be more than a bit posh.

The lads will enjoy a pre-match dinner with their public school opponents and Little Lever School's head of PE, Jason Whittaker, has promised they will "watch their Ps and Qs".

But the all-conquering Little Lever boys are in confident mood after humbling Oakham Public School in the competition's semi-finals.
