IT'S green for go for a new roundabout at the ASDA store in Clayton Green after more than two years in the pipeline.

Bosses at the store, off Sheephill Lane, are delighted that plans for a roundabout to alleviate congestion at a busy junction will go ahead.

Amanda Cox, general store manager at ASDA, said: "We are delighted to be in a position to go ahead with the roundabout.

"We have been delayed because of problems with purchasing the surrounding land, but I am glad to say it's now signed, sealed and delivered. We plan to start work in late August."

It is hoped the roundabout, which will cost ASDA £250,000, will be completed in time for Christmas.

Plans for the island were delayed as the original proposals meant encroaching on land belonging to the nearby pub, The Beaumont, whose owners refused to sell.

But with the help of Lancashire County Council's environment directorate, ASDA redesigned the original plans which have now been approved.

The news was welcomed by Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle who said: "An agreement has been reached as to the best way to progress with the construction of a roundabout on the entrance-exit to the supermarket.

"The need for a roundabout is clearly necessary for anyone who uses the supermarket and for those passing by.

"While the exit road was widened twelve months ago, relieving some congestion, the only long-term solution is a roundabout and I am pleased approval for the roundabout has now been given."
