SAM Allardyce has put his search for a new goalkeeper on hold after getting the thumbs up from Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The Wanderers' boss, priced out of a move for Bradford City's Matt Clarke, has spoken to Everton about their unsettled Norwegian international, Thomas Myhre.

But he is so confident that Jaaskelainen will be fit for the start of the new season, after his rapid recovery from the knee ligament damage he sustained in January, that he is in no rush to follow up his initial inquiry.

"We'll have to see how Jussi progresses but, if he is fit, it will be a massive bonus," Allardyce said. "With Steve Banks, we'll have two good goalkeepers and I might just leave it between them."

Bradford's £1.5 million price tag appears to have wrecked any hope Wanderers had of signing Clarke, who impressed in 11 appearances on loan at the end of last season. Everton are asking around £800,000 for Myhre, who is also wanted by Danish champions, FC Copenhagen.

Allardyce is still determined to strengthen his attacking hand, however, despite having signed Denmark international Henrik Pedersen from Silkeborg in a £1 million deal.

He has confirmed an interest in the 35-year-old former Southampton and Leeds striker, Rod Wallace, who is available on a free transfer from Glasgow Rangers.

Wanderers have scrapped plans for a prestige pre-season friendly against Paris St Germain, which was scheduled for Saturday, July 21.
