A TRAINEE nurse who jumped out of a plane at 10,000ft raised £1,000 for a charity researching the cause of cot deaths.
Joanne Hartley, aged 20, raised the money for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, which researches into the causes of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Joanne, of Churchill Drive, Little Lever, made the jump at Black Knight parachute centre near Lancaster after studying SIDS at her nursing course at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston.
She said: "It was the first time I had ever done anything like it and it was amazing. I wasn't scared at first -- but when I saw Blackpool Tower down below I realised how high up I was. I was very happy when the parachute worked!"
Joanne did the jump in tandem with an instructor who was there in case of any problems. She raised money by getting sponsors from her family, church and fellow students on the third year of her nursing course.
