KIERON Purtill fears his season is over because of a persistent shoulder injury.

The Leigh Centurions' half back is likely to need more surgery, effectively ending his chances of playing again this season.

The club captain at Hilton Park has struggled for full fitness throughout the campaign after a shoulder operation in the close season. He made only six first team appearances this season before breaking down again.

A visit to a leading Manchester specialist has confirmed Leigh's worst fears. The surgeon feels that Purtill has torn a ligament which connects the bicep to the shoulder and if a scan this week confirms that, the player will again need to go under the knife.

But his involvement with the club will continue to grow, according to coach Paul Terzis.

"Of course Kieron's disappointed with the news but we value his input at Leigh and he'll be kept busy between now and the end of the season," he says.

"He's already assisting at the Academy coaching sessions and on match days he sits alongside me in the stand. I value his opinions, he's been a big help to me.

"He'll be a big part of what happens at this club between now and the end of the season."
