FIFTY workers were evacuated from a Radcliffe flooring factory after toxic fumes escaped from an overheating machine.
Around 25 fire officers tackled the incident at the premises of James Halstead in Leicester Road yesterday evening.
A machine which breaks down PVC tiles overheated, causing granuals to decompose and to give off dangerous toxic fumes.
Fire crews wore special chemical protection suits and breathing apparatus.
They removed a conveyor belt serving the faulty machine and poured water over it.
Around 30 minutes later, staff were able to return to the factory.
