CUSTOMERS picked up an amazing bargain at a Westhoughton company when a website pricing error allowed them to buy a computer printer for ONE PENNY.

Dabs.com which describes itself as Europe's leading IT e-tailer, discovered that the May 2 boob offered a Samsung ML-4500 printer for £0.01 -- dramatically reduced from £151.

A spokesman at the current Bolton and Bury Company of the Year explained that the mistake arose through a "bundle" which should have seen the printer being given away with a high end model.

Instead, it was shown on the site separately for one penny.

Pride

Managing Director David Atherton has reacted by agreeing to honour all customers involved by completing the sale at the reduced price.

He said: "At Dabs we pride ourselves on customer service and building customer relations.

"Customers are the focal point of our business and this is demonstrated by the unsolicited customers' comments we receive and display on our website.

"With regards to this policy, it would be wholly unacceptable to ask customers to revise their purchase expectations due to an error at our end."

Promise

One of the lucky "winners" was regular customer Alan Purvis from Carlisle.

"I am very pleased indeed to have received the device for 1p and very impressed that Dabs is honouring its price promise," he said.

He added: "This is the sort of internet folk tale that you hear about but never quite believe - until it happens to you."

This commitment is subject to one printer per customer.

The spokesman said it was not yet known how many printers had been sold for one penny, but it was "below 50."

"The error was made and discovered within the day," she said.
