CHORLEY FM will take to the airwaves this summer after a two week licence was granted for a radio station in the town for the midsummer festival.

Chorley Borough Council and the Community Radio Group applied for a temporary permit, and last week they were given the green light, much to the delight of Glen Woodroofe, chairman of Chorley Community Radio Group. He said: "We have pretty much got council funding and are still awaiting the result of a bid for lottery funding, but the licence is in the bag."

Chorley FM, the fictional local radio station made famous by Bolton comedian Peter Kay, will broadcast from June 30 until July 14, on 87.7FM.

People in a three mile radius of the station base, which will be somewhere in Chorley town centre, will be able to tune in, that includes Whittle-le-Woods, Clayton-le-Woods, Leyland, Coppull, Euxton and parts of Adlington.

Chorley Borough Council plans to approach Peter Kay for his input, as the idea of Chorley FM was his idea in the first place.

But volunteers are still needed for an outside broadcast unit for the station, so if you are interested in getting involved call Glen on 01772 697626.
