ATTENTION! Wallsuches old bleachworks, Horwich, is under attack by Redrow homes.

Ably spotted by Geoff Tindle (BEN, May 3).

Redrow Homes are homing in which a salvo of 30 homes with garages, augmented by a broadside of 111 more, while blinkered Horwich sleeps on.

"Not our problem!" we say.

I say it will be if you regularly travel, or live on Chorley Old Road, or reside on 'rat run' Newchapel Lane, or live on glorious Walsuches Lane, or nestle by Gingham Brow, or verily dwell in tranquillity along Foxholes.

Oh yes! Many roads lead you here. Paradise lost overnight.

It seems that Redrow intend to enhance the character of the surrounds!

Their artwork not going unnoticed by our obliging Planning Committee, Horwich, who gush: "I think these plans are quite exciting. The existing buildings will look exactly the same from Chorley Old Road, but some members of the public are concerned about traffic problems." (BEN, April 30). Aren't they?

This 'conservation village' can only grow if it takes hold.

If you're bothered by that, do this. Ring Peter Ashley, Town Hall, Bolton, on 01204 336045, quoting planning application 57008/00, or better still write to Environmental Department, Ray Jefferson, Town Hall, Bolton, BL1 1RU, telling him what you think.

Be quick, and before May 21. I daresay any marketing of such a lucrative development would be more robust than the current Town Hall posting of its proposal.
