BOLTON Schools made a successful start to the season with a convincing 79-run victory over Bury and Kearsley Cricket Club.

Electing to bat, Bolton made a slow start against tight bowling. Jonathan Shaw was the first to be out with the score on 19.

Richard Fern was run out without scoring with the score on 24. Captain Nick Woods then took centre stage with a fine 56. He was well supported by Adam Worrall 27 and Anthony Mellalieu 27 as Bolton were bowled out off the last ball of their innings for 135; Bury's Chapman taking 5 for 29.

Bury were always struggling against tight Bolton bowling and were bowled out for 56. Opening bowlers Paul Tong 4 for 11 and Chris Tye 1 for 3 made scoring extremely difficult for Bury. Nick Woods 2 for 17 and Sam Cruickshanks 1 for 9 were the other Bolton wicket takers. Bolton play their next league game at Irlam Cricket Club on Friday against Salford. This is followed on the Tuesday with a trip to Littleborough Cricket Club for a match against Rochdale Schools.
