A Kearsley darts team's hopes of winning a dream trip to Las Vegas continues to hang in the balance.

The 12-strong Moss Rose team drew the semi-final of a nationwide competition, which also features dominoes, shove ha'penny and quiz questions, over two legs against a team from Durham.

Now they must replay at a neutral venue for a place in the grand final where the prize is a week in the gambling capital of the world for all 12 and their partners.

BOLTON'S top darts team is closing in on a dream trip to Las Vegas.

The Moss Rose has swept aside eight rivals from all over the country in a national competition and are just one more win away from jetting off to America.

The 12-strong squad has won eight matches to reach the semi-final stage where they must beat a team from Durham in the second leg of a two-legged semi-final.

The Bolton lads drew the first leg in Durham on Saturday and will be looking to finish the job this Saturday at the Moss Rose pub on Manchester Road, Kearsley.

Victory in that two-legged semi-final and then the grand final in Coventry on May 20 will earn the team the top prize in the Pubmaster Breweries competition.

And they won't only need the throwing talent, they will also have to be able to cope with the pressure from their wives and partners who also get to go with them if they win.

The squad of Brian Wright, Steve Coote, Paul Williams, Les Fitton, Gary Cartmel, John Worthington, Terry Connor, Graham Warburton, Mike Grimshaw, Paul Hesten, Alison Penlington and Ian Haslam - eight play with four reserves - have already won something from the competition for reaching the semi-finals.

If they lose at the last four stage they will be off for a day at the races courtesy of the competition organisers while if they lose the final they will get a weekend in Dublin.

"The thought of winning a week's holiday in Las Vegas is a brilliant incentive," said Brian Wright, captain of the side which is flying high and unbeaten at the top of the Swinton Darts League and also in the final of the league cup.

"The team is totally committed to winning it with some of the players changing their shifts and days off to play matches.

"We've just got three games to go and we're really up for it. We believe we can go all the way because the players have got confidence in their ability and confidence in themselves. There's no point being negative.

"The wives also know we've got the talent and they are praying we can win because they will be coming with us if we get there." Dartts, quiz, dominoes, shove hapenny. Drew the match and there's going to be a rematch at a neutral venue.
