BOLTON is educating the world when it comes to preventing pain and suffering.

Communicable Disease Consultant for Bolton, Dr Robert Aston, has just returned from a high profile meeting in Brussels.

His brief was to give the low down on immunisation making sure Euro MPs knew the facts behind the "scaremongering".

Dr Aston, who advises the government on health related issues, turned up in Belgium after a whirlwind trip to Holland.

And the Horwich medic has been asked by the World Health organisation to go to China to spread the word about inoculation and health jabs.

Dr Aston said:"Unfortunately, I had to turn down the chance to speak to the Kurdish people in China.

"They wanted me to go within a few days notice. However, I was unable to organise it in time.

"The international side of my job is very exciting.

"I got a very positive response from the Euro MPs."

Dr Aston is pushing for an independent body of experts to give advice globally on preventing killer diseases such as Meningitis and TB.

He claims the current systme relies heavily on medical and industrial companies who may be accused of having vested interest in health issues.

He will soon speak at the New Zealand National Conference in September.

Dr Aston said: "This is all based on work by Bolton by the people in Bolton. I'm just a representative of the hard working team.

"But Bolton is making a significant contribution to world health."
