THANK God that this Labour Government has shown commonsense in refusing to subsidise the rebuilding of the Wembley Stadium with public money.
As one of the millions who have not the slightest interest in our National Game, I am heartily sick of having it stuffed down our throats at every opportunity, with no regard for the delayed, postponed and cancelled TV programmes, and the disappointment this brings to the majority of licence-paying viewers.
Let the rich Football Association use its own monies for the project.
They should have, when mooting the rebuilding programme, like all good businesses, ensured that the capital was there, instead of expecting the Government to subsidise them.
Isn't it enough that they got £150 million from the Lottery; money which could well have been spent on infinitely more worthy causes that football.
A P Tobias, Bury
