FOUR people escaped unhurt last night after their car skidded off the road and ploughed through a fence.

Fire chiefs say the Alfa Romeo lost control on a bend and skidded into the locked fence before flipping onto its roof in Smith Street, Darcy Lever, at 7.30 pm last night.

The four, who have not been named, managed to crawl out unhurt before fire crews arrived.

Station Officer Neil Barlow, from Farnworth Fire Station, said the car was severely damaged.

He added: "They were very lucky."
