RADCLIFFE Borough goalkeeper Danny Hurst was a major player in his team's 1-1 away draw at second in the table Vauxhall Motors, writes John Bullen.

The Wirral outfit, looking for a second successive promotion, suffered a body blow on the quarter hour mark when top scorer Nicky Young was sent off for aiming a blow of his own at Boro's Simon Kelly.

Strangely this appeared to effect Boro, who had started brightly, more than Motors. The home side despite the one man disadvantage held the upper hand and Hurst had to prove his quality with saves from Lawton and Haddrell. He was finally beaten just before the interval as Stuart Wright's inswinging corner went direct into the back of his net.

Experienced striker

The start of the second half saw Vauxhalls in scintillating form but time and again the young Boro keeper showed all the reasons why he is attracting much interest from all quarters.

Fifteen minutes from the end, wily experienced striker Mark Carter earned Radcliffe a point as he found space for himself from Scott Wilson's cross to fire home from what seemed an impossible angle.

Having been under the cosh the closing stages saw Boro chasing all three points with Mark Dempsey only inches away and Carter and Wilson firing just over the crossbar.

Radcliffe entertain Witton Albion tomorrow night.
