AMONGST the 30,000 intrepid souls running in the 2001 Flora London Marathon was a contingent of Burnden Road Runners. First home for the club in a time of 2hr 44min 28sec was Stuart Shaw.
Other finishers were:- Simon Marland 2:55:17, Martyn Pollitt 3:25:40(PB), Andy Duffy 3:35:37, Brandon Matthews 3:35:37, Andy Wheeler 3:47:15, Tony Connell 4:28:53, John Hall 4:44:25, Cynthia Nuttall 5:37:59, Marie Merritt 6:01:59.
Away from the streets of London an excellent field of 362 runners took part in the Bolton 10k from Leverhulme Park.
In cold, blustery conditions the first finisher for Burnden was Brian Duffy in a time of 36:36. Also competing on her 62nd birthday (and finishing first in her age category) was the ever-sprightly Tess Harrison who clocked in at 55:05. Other finishers were:- Paul Christie 39:13, Geoff Fenton 41:54, Don Nichol 44:54. Salford 10k results 13/04/01.
