THE SEARCH for a donor to save young leukaemia-sufferer Elizabeth Morris continues -- with a match still not found.

Yet, floods of donors are stepping forward to offer their tissue types on the Anthony Bone Marrow Trust register in a desperate bid to save others.

They are coming forward after Elizabeth's family have pleaded with Bolton people to help others by giving blood to the Trust.

As reported in the Evening News, four years old Elizabeth has suffered with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia since she was 18 months old.

Her mum Janet and Jeremy put forward their two year old daughter, Rachel, in a desperate attempt to offer their eldest daughter a vital lifeline.

But doctors told the couple that Rachel's blood was not a match.

Now Elizabeth's only hope is to find a donor on the national register.

Linda Crawford from the bone marrow charity praised the BEN for generating such a positive response for the charity.

Mrs Crawford said: "There has been a very positive response raising awareness of the register. People have come forward seeing the need for more donors to help Elizabeth and 7,000 people in the UK who are currently looking for a bone marrow transplant.

"But for every donor we get, it costs us £50 to put them on the register. We do not charge anyone to go on the register. But we are constantly encouraging fund-raising ideas."

The Bury Fun Run being staged on June10 has pledged to offer its proceeds to Elizabeth.

Organiser, Carol Snowdon, said that they expect to raise more than £5,000 which will go towards the cost of treatment if a donor match is found.

The Bury Friends of the Anthony Bone Marrow Trust hope to attract hundreds of runners, including families, to the event being staged at King George V Playing Fields, Newbold Street, Bury, at 2pm.

The five mile run will go through Lowercroft and Walshaw before heading back to the park for a fun day of games and stalls.

The Bury friends are now desperate to attract a disc jockey with a PA system who will be able to shout out the numbers of runners crossing the finishing line.

Entry costs £3 for adults, £2 for children or £8 per family.

Elizabeth has been invited to give out the prizes and judge a fancy dress competition.

Those interested in taking part or who would like to donate their DJ services should contact Carol Snowdon on Bolton 883098.
