A SCHOOLBOY who loves singing and dancing has recorded his first single -- at the age of seven!

Thomas Smith has recorded a version of Walking in the Air made famous by Aled Jones from the animated film The Snowman.

The Harwood Meadows Primary School pupil is now desperate to appear on Stars in their Eyes as Aled Jones.

Talent spotter Tracie Ross, who also manages girl group La Caj, first heard Thomas sing when he was at playschool. She arranged the recording session at Lollipop Studios in Whitefield and little Thomas, who is a big fan of Steps, Hear' Say and Abba, thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Tracie said: "He is completely laid back and takes everything in his stride.

"He has a lovely sweet voice and won a singing competition the other week without even knowing it!"

Thomas, who enjoys classes in ballet, tap and modern dancing, is accompanied by his five-year-old sister Ellie when he performs Walking in the Air on stage.

Ellie dresses up in a snowman's outfit while Thomas dons his pyjamas and slippers like the boy who is whisked away in the famous cartoon based on the book by Raymond Briggs.

His 37-year-old mum Linda, of Fairway Avenue, Harwood, said: "Thomas is thrilled to bits with the CD.

"He loves singing and dancing and has been in quite a few shows now. He puts on little shows for everyone in the avenue and never gets nervous.

"Thomas has got five or six songs he performs regularly now and will hopefully record all of them on one CD."

His other favourite tracks include Ben by Michael Jackson and Thank You for the Music by Abba.

He has written his own thank you speech which is printed on the CD cover with a dedication to his parents, Ellie and big brother Adam.

Thomas's CD will be on sale over the next few months whenever he performs live.
