ACTRESS Liz Dawn -- Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street -- opened a new store at Manchester Airport.
The £1.7 million Travel Value and Duty Free Shop in the Terminal One departure lounge is the first major new tax and duty free outlet to be built in the UK following the abolition of duty free retailing within the EU in 1999.
Mr Geoff Muirhead, Manchester Airport's Chief Executive, said: "By relocating the shop into the centre of the departure lounge we are creating an area which all passengers will pass through.
"They will then be able to see for themselves that the tax free sales available on a wide variety of goods, including electrical goods, clothing, toys, cosmetics and fragrances, still offer significant savings over high street prices no matter where they are travelling."
The airport is owned by Greater Manchester local authorities, including Bolton and Bury. Liz Dawn is pictured with Mr Muirhead (left) and David King, managing director of Alpha Retail.
