DEAN Holdsworth has teamed up with the Bolton Evening News to raise much-needed funds for a local charity -- after dedicating his match-winning goal against Norwich to one of his young fans.

The Reebok favourite won the sponsors' Man of the Match award after scoring the only goal of the game at the Reebok on Saturday to keep Wanderers' promotion dream alive.

And after the game he handed the bottle of bubbly to the BEN's chief football writer, Gordon Sharrock, to auction on his behalf for the benefit of Derian House, the Chorley-based children's hospice.

As well as the bubbly, which has been autographed, Deano has also thrown in his Wanderers shirt plus two tickets for the final home league game against Sheffield United on May 6.

Holdsworth had earlier handed his signed shirt to Derian House resident David Grundy, who was at the match with his family and friend as a special guest of the Wanderers.

David, aged six, of Wilkinson Avenue, Little Lever, who attends Mytham Primary School, suffers from life threatening muscle-wasting disease Leighs Syndrome and is given vital help from the children's hospice each week.

"I'll score the winning goal for us and you can have my shirt," Holdsworth told the youngster when they met up at the DeVere Whites Hotel before the game.

Having duly obliged on both counts, he is now counting on BEN readers to add to the joy of David and other youngsters who are cared for at the hospice. Holdsworth told the BEN: "David was fantastic. He loved his trip to the Reebok and it was great to get the win he wanted.

"Derian House do a great job for the youngsters and we are only too happy to help in any way we can."

David's mum Val Grundy said: "He is a bubbly little lad who loves his football and Deano is his favourite player.

"It is a really good cause and the staff deserve the help of BEN readers. Every penny counts.'

The auction for the bubbly starts today so don't be shy and dig deep.
