I READ with interest the April 16 report in the BEN of the restoration of St Stephen and All Martyrs Church, Lever Bridge.

There were two people mostly involved with the work. They were Mr Jack Wood, of Radcliffe Road, and Mr Partridge, the Diocesan Architect.

Mr Ward at present is a church warden, and was the representative for the Church to deal with the restoration. Both of these gentlemen met quite often to discuss the phases of work, costs and make decisions. This continued for a period of 10 years.

On behalf of the PCC, parishioners and friends of the Church, who I am sure will be pleased to join me, please accept credit and thanks for the service given.

Mr Ward has asked the vicar if he would take charge of the last phase, which is outside, part of which has already started. The vicar has accepted this.

The vicar is the Rev Brian Saga, and was installed in July last year. I am told he is delighted with the outcome of it all. It is also thanks to the fund-raising committee, who have worked hard to help with the costs.

As a footnote, the replica of the original spire in the porch was made by Mr Frank Kirkpatrick, who was the organist at the Mission Church in Darcy Lever.
