ATHERTON Town took over pole position in the Premier Division with a 3-0 away win at Stockport Georgians.

Neil Lewis hit the first then two goals killed off the home team challenge with Daniel Christie setting up Phil Hornby and Martin Warburton flicking on at the near post for Leighton Packaging man of the match full back Reynolds on hand to convert at the far post.

Town have a two point advantage over second placed Wythenshawe Amateurs but the serious threat comes from Stand Athletic a place further back three points adrift but with three games in hand. Tonight Stand entertain Pennington and on Saturday it is the first of the two title-decider clashes with Atherton Town at Howe Bridge.

Elton Fold edged out Sacred Heart 2-1 at home in one of the best games seen all season. The victory owed much to two goals in two minutes from Keith Ingham and Steve Smith. The visitors hit back but Fold held on with 17 year old keeper Danny Caldwell particularly impressive.

. Pennington's dismal season continued in a 2-1 home defeat by Dukinfield town, Neil Critchley the scorer.

Leigh Athletic marched on at the top of division onewith two goals from Steve Marsh and one from Kev Smith in a 3-1 win at Wilmslow Albion. Hindsford missed four or five golden opportunities at home to Avro in a 1-0 defeat. Atherton Town Reserves won 4-1 at home to Stand Athletic with goals from White (2), Shawcross and Stokes.
