TABLE soccer star Daniel Belden will be creating all the tension of the Wanderers' promotion push when he represents the Superwhites in a national competition.

The 10-year-old will have his supporters biting their nails when he comes face to face with some of the best young players in the country at Anfield today.

Daniel qualified for the national final last year, held at the Millennium Dome, and will be hoping to take the title to the Reebok this time.

The soccer star said he was confident he could beat the best.

He added: "I came second in my group last year, but I think I have improved a lot. I won a table and have been practising a lot at home."

Daniel is actually a Manchester United supporter, and picks Beckham as his favourite player, but claims the Wanderers are his second team.

Being a true professional, he has never let his divided loyalties get in the way and has beaten the Old Trafford representative on two occasions.

He said: "I wouldn't consider a transfer to Manchester United if they put in an offer. I'm happy sticking with Bolton."

Daniel, from Chorley, got involved in the annual contest three years ago. The Bolton Wanderers Football in the Community project offered pupils at schools in the area the chance to qualify for the regional and national finals, run by Smoby, who make football tables.

The boy, who had never really played the game before, caught the bug and beat everyone at St Bedes Primary, Whittle-le-Woods.

Daniel's mother Helen, who will be travelling down to Liverpool today, said she was surprised he became so good at the game.

"He now plays his uncle who is quite good, so it may be in the family. He said it is all in the wrist action."

"He is very good and the standard in the final will be very high, but he's practised more this time, so I think he's got a good chance."

As well as taking part in the finals, Daniel will be given the chance to walk on Anfield's famous pitch and enjoy a tour of the stadium. The presentation will be given by a major football personality, whose identity has not yet been revealed.
