A TEENAGE burglar narrowly escaped being sent to jail after a judge heard he had offended again while awaiting the outcome of a deferred sentence.
Keith Fisher, aged 18, had been told last year by Judge William Morris that if he behaved himself, got a job and kept out of trouble, he would not send him to prison for committing two house burglaries.
But Bolton Crown Court heard that Fisher, of Maden Walk, Whitefield, had stolen a bottle of spirits while awaiting sentence.
The teenager had stolen a bottle of spirits from Asda just before Christmas to give as a present.
Judge Morris decided not to send him to custody because he was making a go of his life and was making good progress with his job.
He told Fisher he had been very lucky in not going to jail. He sentenced him to 12 months Community Rehabilitation Order and 100 hours Community Punishment Order.
