A LOCAL MP has written to the Prime Minister urging him to help award campaign medals to those who served in the Suez Canal Zone between 1951 and 1954.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the deployment of British service men in the zone. During that occupation 60 were killed and 600 wounded by hostile fire.

Ruth Kelly MP has urged Tony Blair to personally ensure that the Honours and Decorations Committee carefully consider any further recommendations to award campaign medals to those who are worthy.
