PHOENIX Theatre Company's current season concludes with Moliere's 17th century comedy "The Imaginary Invalid", in a snappy translation by Miles Malleson.
The play will be performed at Chorley Old Road United Reform Church Hall, from May 23 to 26 and is directed by Mark Weatherall.
The story follows hypochondriac Monsieur Argan who, to reduce his medical fees, decides to marry off his daughter Angelica to a physician's son. Unfortunately, Angelica loves Cleante, Argan's brother, and an inventive maid steps in to save the situation for the lovers while also exposing Madame Argan's schemes to bleed her husband of his fortune. They then persuade Argan to turn physician so that he can 'quack' himself free of charge . . .
Other forthcoming Phoenix productions includes the musical play Dreams from a Summer House. Story and lyrics by Alan Ayckbourn with music by John Pattison. The production runs from September 26 to 29.
