A CHILDREN'S club set up in memory of a mother of three who died just days before her wedding will celebrate its first birthday next week.

The Kidz Klub was formed last March, days after the tragic death of bride-to-be Lynette Mulenga.

Mrs Mulenga, aged 33, from Crumpsall Street, Halliwell, suffered a heart attack as she prepared breakfast in front of her children, Godfrey, aged seven, Samantha, nine, and five-year-old Carissa.

Godrey dialled 999 and told the operator his mum was ill but paramedics failed in their efforts to save her. She died at the Royal Bolton Hospital hours later.

Mrs Mulenga, the daughter of a High Court judge in Uganda, arrived in Bolton with her children eight years ago. She was a talented singer and a member of the North West Community Choir.

And as well as successfully passing a post graduate masters degree in Chemistry at Bolton Institute, the 33-year-old was a tireless charity worker.

Friends and family paid touching tributes to Mrs Mulenga, who was described as "a queen of hearts" by her sister, 21-year-old Zikani.

But weeks after the tragedy, the kids club Mrs Mulenga owned, Treasured Children, closed down and was replaced by the Kidz Klub, run by friend and former manager of the first club, Cath Dunning. It meets at Masefield County Primary School in Little Lever.

And on Tuesday, the club will celebrate its first birthday -- and remember Mrs Mulenga's life -- with a disco and magic show.

Kidz Klub Manager Mrs Dunning said: "It was hard for us to get over Lynette's death but we have and opened another club, so in a way it has been in her memory. A lot of children and parents remember Lynette. She used to enjoy what she did and her thoughts were always with the children.

"Lynette would be proud that the Kidz Club is up and running. We have had a lot of support over the years and the staff, teachers and parents have all been brilliant."

The Kidz Club is an after school and holiday children's club open to children aged between nine and 16.

Craft lessons, darts, football and snooker are among a host of activities available at Masefield County Primary School.

Lynette's children are now being cared for in London by her first husband.
